Announcements

  • Dr. Kristian Jones has been selected as a post-doctoral scholar for the ITHS KL2 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program! Dr. Jones’ KL2 research project focuses on how community-based youth mentoring programs can prevent firearm violence in the communities they serve while promoting social justice among youth and families. To read more about the 2024 Cohort of ITHS KL2 Scholars and the NIH-sponsored program, please visit the ITHS website.
  • The University of Pennsylvania Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and Penn Injury Science Center are hosting a virtual seminar, titled "Evidence-Driven Approaches to Preventing Firearm Deaths", on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 12-1 PM ET. The seminar will feature a panel of experts, including FIPRP Director Dr. Ali Rowhani-Rahbar. Click here to register for the event. 
  • The Violence Prevention and Transformation Research Collaborative at the University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) is hosting a free event on Thursday, May 9th from 5-8:30 PM PT in MLG 110 on the UWT campus. The event will feature nationally renowned experts to discuss why the U.S. has so many more mass shootings than anywhere else in the world and what solutions actually work to prevent and reduce these catastrophic events.   • Seattle Children's is hosting a Safe Firearm Storage Giveaway on Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 10 AM - 1 PM PT in Fife, WA. The event will provide training on how to use a lock box or trigger lock, and will provide one free lock box or trigger lock per person.   • The National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research is hosting a series of webinars highlighting recent insights into gun violence prevention. Dr. Julie Kafka will be providing a ground-breaking new assessment of IPV’s contribution to violent deaths in the United States on Tuesday, June 4th at 3 PM ET. This study reveals that almost 10 percent of homicides, police shootings and suicides can be linked to IPV dynamics.   • FIPRP has a SharePoint that we are hoping will help facilitate the sharing of resources. We currently have a methods folder which includes resources and guidance on topics like data visualization, qualitative methods, and survey methods among other resources for FIPRP outreach.
