Announcements

 

  • A Live Crime Tracker from NORC at the University of Chicago’s Center on Public Safety and Justice was released this week! The data tracker offers in-depth information on crime, violence, and victimization in cities across the United States. It provides the public, policymakers, researchers, and others with transparent, timely, and available data that can help cities respond rapidly to emerging public safety concerns. You can read more about the Live Crime Tracker here or use the tracking tool to explore the data here
  • June is Gun Violence Awareness Month and National Gun Violence Awareness Day will be observed on June 7. Below are some events taking place in Seattle this June to honor the occasion:
    • Together We End Gun Violence Conference (June 5th & 6th at Lumen Field): Members of the FIPRP team (Ali, Julia, Lynniah, Kristian, Kelsey, Rachel) will be hosting a workshop on Evaluating Community Violence Interventions (June 5th @ 1:15-2:45pm).
    • The Grandmothers Against Gun Violence (GAGV) Diversity and Partnerships Team is hosting a free webinar on June 11th, 2024 from 1:00-2:00pm. The webinar is titled "Community Conversations: Gun Violence Prevention - an Urgent Public Health Matter" and will highlight the voices/perspectives of several panelists. To register or read more about the panelists, use the following link: Webinar Registration - Zoom
    • Show Up, Grandmothers Against Gun Violence (Friday, June 14th from 3:00-4:00pm): Join us on the 14th of each month as we Show Up as a visible reminder of the need for gun safety, to bring attention to the gun violence epidemic, and to demand safe gun legislation. Hosted at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr Ave S and Rainier Ave S pedestrian/bike overpass.

Seattle Children's is hosting a Safe Firearm Storage Giveaway on   Saturday, June 1, 2024   from   10 AM - 1 PM PT   in   Fife, WA . The event will provide training on how to use a lock box or trigger lock, and will provide one free lock box or trigger lock per person. NCGVR Webinar

The National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research is hosting a series of webinars highlighting recent insights into gun violence prevention. Dr. Julie Kafka will be providing a ground-breaking new assessment of IPV’s contribution to violent deaths in the United States on   Tuesday, June 4th   at   3 PM ET . This study reveals that almost 10 percent of homicides, police shootings and suicides can be linked to IPV dynamics. The Together We End Gun Violence Conference will be held in Seattle, WA   from  June 5-6, 2024 . The conference series aims to strengthen grassroots to grass-top efforts to ensure a collective impact through a public health approach and build the foundation for our communities to be safe and thriving.  FIPRP   's Social Impact Evaluation team will hold a workshop in this conference focused on evaluating CVIs.   • FIPRP has a SharePoint that we are hoping will help facilitate the sharing of resources. We currently have a methods folder which includes resources and guidance on topics like data visualization, qualitative methods, and survey methods among other resources for FIPRP outreach.
