Announcements

 

  • Anne Massey has been selected as a 2024 Bonderman Fellow, which provides a rare opportunity for UW students to travel the world and broaden their understanding of the communities around them. She will explore models of interconnectedness that center community and the collective good during her travels to Vietnam, Taiwan, Jordan, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, and Senegal. Congratulations, Anne! 
  • Lynniah Grayson will be the sole delegate representing Washington State at the prestigious Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy (CVILA), which focuses on reducing gun violence and expanding the community violence intervention (CVI) field through a combination of classroom instruction and immersive learning labs. This first-of-its-kind program aims to enhance the leadership and management capabilities of senior CVI leaders nationwide. Starting May 19th, Lynniah will join 32 other selected leaders from across the country in a transformative five-month educational journey. Please join us in wishing Lynniah success as she embarks on this exciting and impactful journey!
  • Congratulations to Julia Schleimer, who was honored as the Outstanding Doctoral Student in the Department of Epidemiology at the 2024 School of Public Health (SPH) Excellence Awards! She was among the students, faculty, and staff who were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the field of public health and the UW community.

  • The 2024 National Research Conference for the Prevention of Firearm-Related Harms will take place from December 9-11, 2024 in Seattle, WA. The Scientific Committee of the Conference is seeking workshop, symposium, oral and poster submissions on research encompassing all aspects of firearm-related harms, and from a wide array of disciplines, focus areas, along the translational research spectrum, and focused at any level of the socio-ecological model. The National Collaborative on Gun Violence Research is hosting a series of webinars highlighting recent insights into gun violence prevention. Dr. Julie Kafka will be providing a ground-breaking new assessment of IPV’s contribution to violent deaths in the United States on Tuesday, June 4th at 3 PM ET. This study reveals that almost 10 percent of homicides, police shootings and suicides can be linked to IPV dynamics. The Together We End Gun Violence Conference will be held in Seattle, WA from June 5-6, 2024. The conference series aims to strengthen grassroots to grass-top efforts to ensure a collective impact through a public health approach and build the foundation for our communities to be safe and thriving.
